Fall Greetings from everyone here...

Dear Gardening Friend,

It’s a beautiful time of year for gardening and we are celebrating. Our selection of hardy garden mums can’t be beat. We grew them here with lots of TLC all summer long.

We have a large selection of 9” mums ($6.95) in lots of different colors The large basket mums ($26.95 & $29.95) have started cracking with color and promise to put on a grand show!.

Pumpkins have arrived and we’re decorating everywhere with the brilliant colors of fall.  Thanks to Mother Nature, the pumpkin crop is plentiful this year and we have loads of our  “sherbert” pumpkins (a Sandy’s Back Porch exclusive).

Our  beloved pansies ($2.45 6-pack and $5.95 Winter Survivors) are brimming with blooms.  They’ll shower your yard with color now, but wait, their show will get even better in March next year. If you’ve never tried them, NOW IS THE TIME.  You’ll be so pleased, you’ll never let your fall garden go without them again.

Many perennials are blooming now that you might have missed earlier in the year.  The sedums are covered with butterflies that just can’t get enough of their delicious nectar.  We have several new varieties including the all time favorite “Autumn Joy.”  Coneflowers in yellow, pink, white, orange and even lime are in high color.

Grasses are putting on their fall display with their plumes starting to emerge.  A new one for us this year is the Panicum “Prairie Fire.”  It looks to be the most purple of all the perennial grasses with an airy, dainty plume.

Don’t forget to plant your spring bulbs now.  Tulips, daffodils, and crocus are the most thought of when you think of bulbs.  But, don’t forget the allium family which makes a stunning display later in the spring.   Globemaster, schubertii and giganteum are among our favorites.  We also have 7 varieties of iris, including “Harmony.”  A dwarf, brilliant blue iris that blooms early spring.  “Double Daiquiri” is a blend of double tulips that will make all your neighbors jealous come April.  Planted among some purple pansies it will be a sure-fire cure for the winter blues.

Many trees and shrubs are hinting that fall is here with their colors just starting to turn.  Winterberries have put on their red berries,  “little Henry sweetspire” has a tinge of red foliage along with the “tiger eye” sumac.  Burning bushes, oak leaf hydrangeas, colorful maples.   These are just a few of the items we have that can create fall magic in your yard.

And, if all of these selections just seem to make your head spin, don’t fret.  Take a few pictures with your camera and bring it in.  We’ll take a look at your garden, listen to your ideas and help you select the right plants for your site.

And for all of you who love to cook with HERBS, we have a fresh crop to choose from.  Put them in a sunny window with at least 6 hours of sun, mist them every now and then, but avoid overwatering. You’ll enjoy their flavors all winter long!

Full of everything you need for FallAnd not to be outdone by all of our outstanding plants, our garden shop has been completely redone and is bursting with fall colors!  As you can see, we’re enjoying the season and all that it has to offer.  Stop by and see us soon.  We’d love to share our passion for gardening with you!
