Frost Alert for Tonight...
A FROST ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 9 AM CDT TUESDAY.
A FROST ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN FROST IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP DURING THE GROWING SEASON. THOSE WITH AGRICULTURAL INTERESTS IN THE WARNED AREA ARE ADVISED TO PROTECT TENDER VEGETATION. ALSO... POTTED PLANTS NORMALLY LEFT OUTDOORS SHOULD BE COVERED OR BROUGHT INSIDE AWAY FROM THE COLD. |
What does that mean to you?
- Bring all house plants and tropical plants inside until the danger of frost has past.
- Bring container gardens inside if possible.
- Cover new plantings of annuals, plus trees and shrubs that have started to bloom, with a protective layer. Sheets and blankets work well for this. Cardboard boxes, paper bags and newspaper will also work well.
- DO NOT USE PLASTIC COVERINGS.
- Use support stakes under blankets or heavy cloth to protect young growth from being broken by the weight of the cover.
- You may need to secure lightweight coverings on the ground with blocks or rocks. For taller trees and shrubs, you may be able to tie them or clip them with clothespins.
Just wanted to let you know. I'm covering my plants, too!
