Did you know...
Time to plant Bulbs! We have a large selection of Tulips, Daffodils, Crocus, Hyacinths, Alliums, and Iris, too. Always use bulb food when planting to ensure the best start for your bulbs.
Our Christmas Bulbs have arrived-Amaryllis and Paper Whites! Usual flowering time for the amaryllis is 7-10 weeks. Remember, size does matter-larger bulbs produce more flowers. Paper Whites generally bloom within 4-6 weeks of planting. Add the beauty of nature to your holiday festivities this season with real flowers!
Don't Forget:

Gardening is about enjoying the smell of things growing in the soil, getting dirty without feeling guilty, and generally taking the time to soak up a little peace and serenity.

Dear Gardening Friends -
I’m sure you’ve heard the expression “Fall is for Planting.” Plants like to get their roots started in cooler conditions when they aren’t stressed by heat, humidity or drought.
But, for gardeners, too, now is an exceptional time of year here in the Midwest. Nothing can compare to the crispy, cool mornings followed by a sunny afternoon. The frantic pace of spring planting is replaced with a more leisurely time for cleaning, pruning and just enjoying all the vibrant fall colors. And, while you’re working in the yard, time seems to stand still and all the troubles of the world don’t exist.
Putting the garden to “bed” isn’t always easy for us sun-loving gardeners, doing just a few things now will help your plants perform even better next year. Cleaning up debris and dead foliage around diseased/insect prone plants will help head off any problems next year. |

Pulling off foliage can damage the crown of the plants so use a pair of sharp pruners to do any trimming. Once the bed is properly cleaned and trimmed, a nice layer of mushroom compost will keep your plants cozy as it slowly breaks down over the winter.
This weekend I was able to spend a few hours working in my yard - using my trusty old wheelbarrow and dogs by my side. All the while, I was dreaming of the new spring beauties and where they’ll fit in my yard. Where will my new bulbs look their best, should I make a new bed, where can I plant new varieties of “just-gotta-have perennials?” That’s the beauty of gardening!
With the changing seasons, there is always the excitement of what’s to come for next year. So, when the fall chores are complete and you’re cleaning your tools while sipping on a hot cup of coffee instead of ice tea, remember, it just doesn’t get any better than this!
