Sandy's Back Porch
Dear Bloom Friend,

Looks like Mother Nature and the calendar are finally in sync! We’ve had an awesome summer and now we’re coming into some beautiful fall weather. The fall gardening season is never as crazy as the spring rush. It’s at this much slower pace that we can really enjoy the beauty of our garden (without sweating so much).

Join us this Saturday, the 12th, for the following well-timed information. You may find yourself happily pruning and planting much more than you expected this fall!

10:00 am BULB BASICS: Spring Color has arrived (yes, it’s time to start thinking about that already)! Our selection includes Tulips, Daffodils, Re-Blooming Iris, some gorgeous mixes and much more. Anita Joggerst will be here to explain how easy it is to create lasting spring color with bulbs. Anita is the author of the St. Louis Post Dispatch column “Beginning Gardener.” Listen as she shares her knowledge as a master gardener and long-time Midwest garden enthusiast.

11:00 am SIX THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU MOW: It’s time now to think about our lawns. Even though they didn’t go dormant this summer, they still need to be fertilized. This is the ultimate time to feed your yard for a healthy, lush carpet of green. By feeding two times in the fall, you’ll promote a strong root system. The stronger the grass, the less likely weeds will invade your yard. Paul Schorr will be here on Saturday at 1:00 to discuss “6 things you should know before you mow.” He’ll have helpful tips and timely information on how to take the frustration out of lawn care.

1:00 pm A PRIMER IN PRUNING: Also, with us on Saturday will be Master Gardener Sam Lutton. One of our most often asked questions here at the Porch is when and how to prune. Sam will share with us proper pruning techniques, necessary tools and detailed information for a variety of shrubs/trees. Loosing blooms to incorrect pruning time can be very frustrating! See what Sam has to offer and never prune at the wrong time again.

See you Saturday,

Sandy
